Chapel organizing the pardon of Notre-Dame-de-Rocamadour in memory of sailors lost at sea, emblematic place of the port of Camaret.
The Notre-Dame-de-Rocamadour chapel, made out of Logonna's yellow stone, was built between 1610 and 1683 and has experienced an eventful life. An English canon ball first destroyed its bell tower in 1694 during the Trez Rouz battle. In memory of this dayn, it will never be rebuilt because the legend has it that Notre Dame de Rocamadour will take her revenge by returning the ball on the guilty ship, which sank! The chapel was later destroyed by a fire in 1910. Restored to its original appearance, it constitutes a real symbolic figure of the Camaret port with the Vauban tower. Once inside, the Gothic-style door, splendid wooden boats suspended and the vaulted ceiling in the shape of a boat hull. Each year, the first Sunday of September, takes place during the Notre Dame de Rocamadour pardon, which honours the memory of sailors who have perished at sea. The boats are then decorated with a great bulwark at sea leave escorted by lifeboat which deposits a flowered crown. A stele dedicated to sailors was put next to the chapel.
