TRISTAN ISLAND
Island located between the marina and the fishing port, offering a superb panorama on the city of Douarnenez.
Located between the marina and the fishing port, Tristan Island is the island that gave its name to the city of Douarnenez. Depending on the tides, you can reach this small jewel of 7 hectares on foot. The island offers a superb panorama over the city and is preserved thanks to its purchase by the Conservatoire du littoral (it used to belong to the family of the poet Jean Richepin). It takes its name from its owner during the Revolution, when the land register was established. During the visit, you will start at the main building, near the caretaker's house, then the guide will take you around the island, where each detour holds its share of surprises. At the bend in the path, you will discover the corners of the island where Trystan loved Yseult (the legend even says that the island would shelter the tomb of the two lovers, hidden under two intertwined trees that you will have to spot...) as well as the remains of the fortress that was this island during the Second World War. With a bit of luck, you might set foot on the lost treasure of the pirate La Fontenelle? No one up to date has been able to find its hiding place... This land of legends is really waiting for you. Note: it is also possible to explore the island without a guide. Curiosity: there is fresh water on the island, which explains its occupation by man since prehistoric times! A place made for history and legend, for games and silence, for adventurers and contemplatives alike.
