The island of Sein is a place of remembrance where the courage and bravery of its inhabitants during the Second World War are honored.
During the Second World War, the island of Sein faced major challenges. Despite their isolation, the inhabitants were kept informed by radio. When the German threat became clearer, some of the inhabitants, guided by the courage of a few sailors, chose to leave for England to join Free France. In July, the island was occupied by the Germans, imposing severe restrictions on the remaining inhabitants. Those who left to join the Free French actively contributed to the war effort. The island receives many awards for its bravery.
