REGIONAL NATURE RESERVE OF THE CRAGOU AND VERGAM HEATHS
Discover the regional nature reserve of the Cragou and Vergam moors in Le Cloître-Saint-Thegonnec.
While the Vergam moors are not easily accessible, the Cragou has a discovery trail that can be used all year round, provided you have the right footwear. The Cragou peat moors are grazed by Nantes cows and Dartmoor ponies from Brittany, as well as the livestock of partner farmers. The Vergam moors, like the drier Cragou moors, are mown by farmers who use the litter to mulch their barns. As a result, curlews and skylarks nest on the ground, while Hen Harriers and Montagu's Harriers scour the moors in search of their prey. On the grazed heaths, meadow pipits mingle with reed buntings. To find Le Cragou, follow the signs from the village of Le Cloître-Saint-Thégonnec to the start of a farm track, where you can park. Continue on foot for 200 meters, then turn left after the shed and follow the track for about a kilometer. At the end of a sunken lane, you come to a small road, which you turn left onto. After 150 meters, turn left again at the junction of the two roads. Your vehicle is waiting for you in the parking lot a little further on. An interpretive booklet is available to help you make the most of the site.
