CAIRN OF BARNENEZ
Megalithic site of exceptional scale with a magnificent panorama to visit in Plouezoc'h, composed of 11 funerary chambers.
At first sight, it looks like a messy pile of stones. Is this why it almost disappeared and was transformed into a quarry until 1955? Having narrowly escaped total destruction, it has become a major megalithic site. Its dating oscillates between 4 500 and 3 500 years BC. Described as the "Parthenon of Antiquity" by Malraux, it consists of 11 burial chambers and no less than 14,000 tons of dry stone were used in its construction. Beyond the building itself, the site is exceptional, with a magnificent panorama.
