ILIZ KOZ
This remarkable site, discovered in the early 1970s in Plouguerneau, bears witness to the funerary art of Brittany in the Middle Ages.
Discovered in the early 1970s, the site Iliz Koz in Tréménac'h, is a remarkable example of funerary art in Brittany during the Middle Ages and beginning of modern times. Silted up during many years, the site Iliz Koz (meaning "old church" in French) was entirely furnished. Visits organized by volunteers from the Association Iliz Koz permits visitors to walk among the ruins of this particular site. You will discover dozens of tombstones with sculptures depicting the symbols of the occupation of the deceased (scissors, anchors) or elements recalling their social origins (swords, shield). Another point of interest of the visit is the ruins of the church and the chapel that reflect the uniqueness of this medieval necropolis. A Pardon, a religious festival, held every year on August 15 at this place.
