MENGANT FORT
A listed fort built between 1684 and 1687 as part of the defense system for the Brest Narrows.
Built by Vauban between 1684 and 1687, Fort du Mengant was part of the defence system of the Brest Narrows, as was Fort Cornouaille, built identically on the Roscanvel peninsula just opposite. The complex includes a high battery (58 m above sea level), where an artillery tower was located, which is now destroyed, and a low battery in a semi-circle at the bottom of the cliff, where two powder magazines remain. The ramp of a funicular, which was used to transport the equipment, is also still visible. Note: to admire this work, classified as a historical monument since 2014, you will have to take the coastal path. The low battery, still owned by the Navy, is only accessible through this means.
