QUIMPER MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
Museum of Fine Arts in a small Italian-style palace in Quimper, one of the richest museums in Brittany and France.
Ranked among the richest museums in Brittany and France, Quimper's Musée des Beaux-Arts is nestled in a charming Italianate palace built in 1867, opposite Saint-Corentin Cathedral. The Breton-inspired paintings, dating from 1875 to 1905, reveal the lively and original traditions of Brittany. The poet and painter Max Jacob, a native of Quimper, is given particular prominence, and is the subject of regular temporary exhibitions. The second floor features an eclectic collection of Northern (17th century), Italian (late 14th to 17th century) and French (17th to 19th century) art. The collection devoted to the painters of the Pont-Aven school is also a must-see.
