Chantepie would draw its name from a Roman dialect, «Cantu-Pice» or «Cantu-Picœ», meaning «singing song». The town of Chantepie covers 1 198 hectares. The urban areas represent about 290 hectares and the areas in the process of urbanization or urbanisables 170 hectares. Its population represents more than 10 000 inhabitants. The municipality is a few steps from Rennes and has a constant expansion. It is served by bus and has primary schools, as well as a large number of maternal assistants.
