An atypical and unique sandy reef covering 250 ha and 1.50 m in height, and one of the finest jewels in our natural heritage.
The Hermelles Bank is a surprising sandy reef of 250 ha and 1,50 m high, elaborated by numerous small marine worms builders (the Hermelles, of a maximum length of 4 cm, have a comb and bristles for the capture and the selection of the grains of sand, then consolidated thanks to a cement produced by a gland), which one discovers at the time of the big tides. Locally called "the slag heap", this bank is one of the most beautiful jewels of the natural heritage of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. This atypical site is unique in Europe.
