Historic castle of the 12th century and theater of animations, visit around a scenographed course, events and animations.
The castle of Fougères, fortress guardian of the Gates of Brittany, is both a historical fortress and a theater of animations. This emblematic and imposing monument founded in the 12th century is one of the must-see family destinations at the gates of Brittany. The castle of Fougères is indeed the largest medieval fortress of Europe in this state of conservation. It has been redesigned many times over the years, especially when it was acquired by the Dukes of Brittany in the 1430's. Visits last about 1h30 and are organized around a scenographic tour with a guide or a free audioguide, which is very entertaining for children. You can discover three towers of the castle, the bailey, the curtain walls and several rooms of the castle. A tour punctuated with riddles is even dedicated to the youngest, from 6 years old: they will be guided by the two mascots of the castle, Mélusine and Médusa. Since 2009, in June, alternating with the Fête des Remparts de Dinan, Les Riches Heures de Fougères plunges visitors into the daily life of a medieval camp with a demonstration of common crafts, a medieval market, a staged attack and a ball and meal inspired by the Middle Ages. Many events and activities are also organized throughout the year at the castle to bring this exceptional monument to life. Continue your journey by strolling through the beautiful streets of the medieval city of Fougères, a city of Art and History.
