SAINT-SAUVEUR ABBEY
A remarkable 9th century abbey, witness to the flourishing past of Redon, one of the most important in Brittany in the Middle Ages.
Founded in the 9th century by the monk Conwoïon, this abbey was one of the most important in Brittany in the Middle Ages. In 1870, a violent fire destroyed the 11th-century Romanesque nave. Since then, the 14th-century bell tower, perched at 67 meters, has been separated from the rest of the monument. Imposing stained glass windows, medieval frescoes, a 17th-century altarpiece and a 15th-century polychrome wooden Virgin Mary are waiting to be discovered. Since January 2022, the church has been undergoing major restoration work (including stained glass). The abbey is closed to the public until the end of 2025.
