INSTITUT CONFUCIUS BRETAGNE
Located in the premises of the former nursery school Papu, the Confucius Institute, a member of the eponymous network, opened its doors in September 2008. It is the result of collaboration between Rennes Métropole, the regional council, China Shandong University and Haban (Office for the Promotion of the Chinese Language). This is increasingly appreciated as Chinese teaching is growing and local economic actors intend to take advantage of the economic opportunities offered by the Middle Empire. Generously endowed by the Haban (who pays the salary of Chinese teachers), the Confucius Institute offers language courses at all levels: starting with the learning of tones, pinyin and characters. It also provides for many activities: calligraphy workshops, go play, art of Chinese tea or cultural evenings. A media library, whose fund is currently being formed, is also installed in these premises. In addition to its cultural vocation, the Institute offers training courses for entrepreneurs wishing to establish commercial links with Chinese partners.
