The Place de Lices was once the site of the equestrian joust between two rivals separated by the lice at Rennes.
History tells us that this square was once an equestrian jousting ground, with two rivals separated by the lice. Surrounded by half-timbered houses and old mansions, its center is home to the Halles Martenot, two Baltard-style metal pavilions built in the 19th century and listed as historic monuments. Today, the town is famous for its Saturday morning market, which has been held here since 1622 and is a veritable showcase for local produce (galettes, crêpes, seafood).
