MAISON TIROT
Tirot is the only toy manufacturer specialising in wooden navigable boats. These miniature boats seduce children and collectors. Tirot has been a Living Heritage Company since 2012.
History. The company was founded in 1946 by the grandfather of the current manager, Nicolas Tirot, on the historic site of Romagné, in Brittany. He worked as a saboteur and wanted to create a wooden toy for children. From this idea was born a unique manufacture, namely a navigable wooden toy boat. Since 2008, Nicolas Tirot, after his father and grandfather, has been at the head of the Breton company. Tirot toy boats won the 2012 Creation Prize in Brittany.
The products. A simple wooden hull, in one piece, a keel for the largest models, and a sail. For three generations, all these products have been manufactured and painted by hand. Toy boats are divided into two ranges: the Petits Mousses, small toys for bathing or beach, and the Sailboats, of all sizes and colours, which sail on the waters. They are made from cotton, brass and wood from a logging operation 50 km from the manufacturing site.
Employment. More than 15,000 boats leave the Tirot workshops each year to be sold in France and abroad.
