ST. NICHOLAS' HOSPITAL

Overlooked by the castle, the Faubourg Saint-Nicolas offers a beautiful testimony of the Vitré of yesteryear. The chapel of the former Saint-Nicolas hospital was built at the end of the 15th century. In the choir, two superimposed wire mesh openings allowed the nuns (present until 1974) to follow the services without leaving their enclosure. In 1980, the Saint-Nicolas chapel was classified as a historical monument. From now on, the place houses a museum which offers an exceptional collection of religious goldsmithery dating from the XVIIth to the beginning of the XXth century.
