CROISTY CHAPEL
Notre-Dame-du-Croisty chapel was first constructed in the Saint Gildas era. Indeed, it is here that on May 11th 565, on Rogations' day (prayers that were said three days before the Ascension to ask God for blessing crops) the saint's undamaged body, who died three months earlier in a small boat on the rocks, was found. His body was buried in the abbey he founded. Since then, the monks of Rhuys go there in procession on the first days of Rogation, every year. The chapel which was originally built too close to the coast collapsed several times before being rebuilt a little further inland in 1826. A mass in memory of lost sailors is held every 15th August. Boats mooring at the harbour entrance are blessed before a flower wreath is laid on the sea.On July 25th, 2014, after 60 years, a new bell was put in the chapel of Croisty.
