NOTRE-DAME-DE-TIMADEUC ABBEY
Cistercian Trappist abbey with a guesthouse and store in Rohan, thematic weekends and monastic weeks organized.
Three monks from the Cistercian abbey of La Trappe founded this monastic site in Timadeuc on July 22, 1841. In September 1847, the monastery was erected as an abbey, but a fire destroyed it in 1863. The final monastery was rebuilt between 1925 and 1930. During the Second World War, Father Guénaël, a member of the Resistance, was deported. At the Liberation, the abbey was awarded the Resistance medal.
Some fifteen brothers currently occupy the premises, living together in unity and peace. Their days are punctuated by the Benedictine motto "Ora et labora" (prayer and work), with time divided between various community tasks, shared meals, and choir services, particularly the celebration of the Eucharist, which is the essential moment for all to live united to Christ and to each other.
The abbey's guesthouse welcomes guests to share the life of prayer and silence of the community of 24 Trappist Cistercians. For a first stay, the Trappists recommend two to three days, but a longer individual retreat can be envisaged at a later date, without exceeding one week. This proposal is for adults only. It is always possible to join the community in prayer for a day, and to meet with a monk for advice on a problem of daily life. Themed weekends and monastic weeks are regularly organized by the community throughout the year.
Accommodation: 31 single rooms. Meals are taken in silence. An oratory, library, halls and visiting rooms are available for retreatants. The cost of the stay is to be determined directly with the brother in charge of the hotel. Groups and young people (up to 30 people) are welcomed in the Saint Julien foyer.
Offices: vigils at 3:45 am, lauds at 6:45 am on weekdays and 7:30 am on Sundays, tierce at 9 am on Sundays, eucharist at 8 am on weekdays, 11:15 am on Saturdays and 11 am on Sundays, sext at 12 pm on weekdays, none at 2 pm on weekdays and 2:30 pm on Sundays, vespers at 5:30 pm, compline at 7:35 pm.
