FORTRESS OF LARGOËT - THE TOWERS OF ELVEN
A fortress with the highest keep in France, once the residence of lords and the penal colony of a famous prisoner.
This 14th-century fortress, residence of the Lords of Largoët, was inhabited in the 15th century by Marshal Jean IV de Rieux, tutor to the Duchess Anne of Brittany, future Queen of France. In 1474, it was also the penal colony of a famous prisoner: the Earl of Richmond, later King Henry VII of England. Owned by the same family for over 300 years, it boasts the highest keep in France (47 m) and walls over 8 m thick.
