JOSSELIN CASTLE

Château de Josselin stands on the Nantes-Brest canal, offering a spectacular view of its façade and three high medieval towers from the outside. Residence of the Dukes of Rohan, it forms one of the three points of the Rohann triangle, along with the Château de Pontivy and the ruins of La Chèze. Entirely restored, a visit to this castle built between 1490 and 1505 will plunge you into a world combining the medieval and Renaissance eras. Inside, among the many rooms you'll pass through, you'll have the chance to admire an imposing library containing over 3,000 books, as well as an incredible fireplace built in the ^16th century. Since 2023, the basement, which contains a ^19th-century calorifier that heated the château, and an upstairs bedroom, that of Duke Alain, have been open to visitors.

A visit to the château goes hand in hand with a tour of the gardens: a formal garden created in the early ^20th century by landscape architect Achille Duchêne, a magnificent rose garden laid out in 2001 and, at the foot of the ramparts, along a stream, an English-style park.

The château also includes a Doll and Toy Museum, located in the former stables, featuring objects discovered in the attic over 30 years ago from a collection dating back to the ^19th century.
