THE CHAPEL OF SAINTE-BARBE
A flamboyant Gothic chapel in the middle of the countryside in Le Faouët.
Nestled in the middle of the countryside, the flamboyant Gothic-style Chapelle Sainte-Barbe is a sight to behold. Its construction, begun in 1489 and completed in 1512, was the result of a vow by Jean de Toulbodou, who is said to have escaped a lightning strike on this very spot and promised to build a place of worship for Sainte-Barbe. He bought the land from Jehan de Bouteville, baron of Faouët, and kept his promise. Sainte-Barbe was invoked to protect against thunder and lightning.
