LE BELEM (FONDATION BELEM)
The Belem regularly stops in Lorient in the summer (in the Port-Louis harbor, at the port of commerce and at the marina). The Belem Foundation, based in Paris, also organizes navigation trips. For the small story, the Belem was launched in 1896 to transport goods between Brazil and France. After many avatars the Caisse d 'Epargne, assisted by the National Navy, saves one of the last three French masts in 1979 and brings him back to France. In 1984, the Belem is classified in Historical Monuments and restored with the help of the DRAC of the countries of the Loire. Since 1986, he has participated in the large sailing rallies. The Belem is now armed with a civilian school. He is the last of the nineteenth-century French commercial sailing boats, still in navigation. Futed: possibility of privatizing the ship!
