THE CHURCH OF SAINT-GILLES
Church with a real treasure of ecclesiastical furniture in Malestroit.
Dating from the 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th centuries, this church has two parallel naves and a real treasure trove of ecclesiastical furniture. On the south façade there is a carved ox, a reminder of the animal that, after its owner prayed to Saint Gilles, got up from a fall and continued on his way, pulling the cart that had lost a wheel. Inside, there are admirable 15th century stained glass windows and polychrome statues. During a restoration in 2011, exceptional paintings, probably from the 13th century, were discovered on the vault.
