Astronomical clock of Ploërmel inviting to travel in time, to understand its workings with the video, the museographic space

The astronomical clock of Ploërmel is a place not to be missed. It amazes by its precision and invites to travel in time, to give the vertigo. Made by Brother Bernardin between 1850 and 1855 for his pupils, it became a Historic Monument in 1982. A short multilingual video invites you to understand its workings. The brothers at the reception desk of the Jean-Marie de La Mennais museum, just next door, are happy to provide explanations. Before leaving, remember to visit the museum and the chapel.

Interesting 19th C clock with 200 brass cogwheels engineered by a mathematically inclined monk "in his spare time" with bells, ten dials (including one that shows sunrise and sunset which is pretty clever, and another that charts the centuries) and an orrary (missing neptune which was discovered too late!) Good video display with a description spoken in five languages.

Passionnante, une découverte et les explications du père Ernest sont indispensables, c'est clair , accessible, bien remis dans le contexte historique . Nous étions accompagnés de notre petite fille de 10ans. Aucun problème, un participation symbolique pourrait être demandée.
