JOUTES NAUTIQUES
Every Friday in summer, two bands compete against each other, perpetuating the tradition of water jousting. The show takes place on the Dronne, in front of the abbey. The goal is not to fall into the water but to make the opposing team fall. Each crew, composed of 5 to 7 rowers and a helmsman, is blessed by the priest before departure. Both boats have Italian sounding names (isn't Brantôme called the green Venice of Périgord?), the blue is the Vivaldi, the red is the Marco Polo. These games are preceded by a farmers' market that starts at 5pm. It's an another reason to spend your Friday summer evening in this pretty city.
Due to the health situation, the games will not take place in July, but may be continued in August if the situation permits.
