CARNAVAL DE BRANTÔME

Part of France's intangible cultural heritage, this carnival combines feasting, dancing and the burning of the bonhomme Carnaval!
Listed as part of France's inventory of intangible cultural heritage, the Brantôme carnival keeps the tradition of the Occitan carnival alive. In the run-up to Easter, the carnival is traditionally a time for feasting and merrymaking before the Lenten season. Today, the dates are more widespread in Brantôme, as they are in Périgueux, Nontron with the Soufflaculs, Bergerac, Sarlat and other towns. Make-up, fancy dress, song and dance before setting fire to the vile carnival man named Pétassou. It's all in good fun, and confetti is the order of the day.
