The Garden of Prehistory was born of an unexpected discovery made in 1978: a Neolithic burial site in the park of the Anneau castle. Following this, an international excavation site was set up, making the town a national reference. The excavations lasted 35 years and brought to light evidence of prehistoric occupation of the site, precisely between 8000 and 3500 B.C.: funerary rites, crafts, necropolis, as well as a circular habitat, which has since been rebuilt. Located in the heart of a reed bed, the circular house of Auneau constitutes a major discovery in the knowledge of the Neolithic habitation. The site is the ideal place to discover the daily life of prehistoric men. In the middle of a park of one hectare, you will find didactic panels, scenes of representations and playful workshops for all the family. On the program, initiation to prehistoric archery, initiation to shooting with the propeller and the assegai, demonstration of the use of the spear, workshop to light a fire, to make an ornament out of steatite or to cut flint... A workshop of discovery of nature is proposed for the youngest with a course in the educational garden: description of the geological layers, observation of the plants useful to the hunters...
