Discover la Etat Unis - Route 66 : Geography
The United States covers 9.6 million km². This immense territory is bordered by two oceans: the Atlantic on the east and the Pacific on the west. Its most famous mountain ranges are the Appalachians and the Rockies, separated by large areas, called Great Plains, and plateau zones. The 66 passes through eight of the 50 states that make up the country but neither of the two mountain ranges mentioned above, with the exception of the Santa Fe region, located at the southern end of the Rockies. The search for a route that would bypass as many natural obstacles as possible and stay as close as possible to the already established railroads is obviously not foreign to all this. In this guide dedicated to Route 66, the geography presented is essentially focused on the one that allows you to discover the route from east to west, state by state, on nearly 4,000 km. The diversity is there.
