Timetable

Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the organization in charge of the operation and maintenance of national monuments, organizes Sound and Light shows on some monuments. This is notably the case at the Red Fort in Delhi or the one in Agra. The shows take place in the early evening (around 7:30 pm) and there is always a session in English.

Budget & Tips

Tickets for the Sound and Light Show at monuments under the aegis of ASI cost around Rs 200. Nightclubs are rare and you will find them only in Delhi. Entrance fees are high, around Rs 5,000 for a couple

To be booked

There are no shows that require advance reservations. However, for the Sound and Light shows, the number of seats is limited and it is best to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show starts.

Night transport

It is not recommended to take public transport at night in India, especially if you are alone. It is better to take a cab or an Uber, whose rates are low compared to Europe.

Age restrictions

Minors are not allowed to drink alcohol or go to nightclubs. The age of majority is 18 in India.

What's very local

If you plan to go to a nightclub, proper attire is required at the entrance. The clubs are rare and considered to be select places for the golden youth.

Smokers

Smoking is not allowed in public places in India, in theory. In practice, the ban varies greatly between cities and the countryside. In Delhi, the ban on smoking outdoors and indoors (except at home) is enforced and police officers hand out fines all over the place. Some bars and nightclubs have smoking rooms equipped with smoke extractors.

Tourist traps

If you are going to a show, always buy your ticket at the box office at the entrance to the venue, not from a scalper.
