Stores are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and sometimes on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., but please ask directly on site. Some are only open in high season.
Local products are relatively expensive but of good quality, and mostly handmade. In some regions, they make a major contribution to the local economy. Beware of CITES export regulations, and remember to apply for a permit at the store. More information on this subject is provided later in the guide.
Don't forget to visit the local workshops, where you can admire local craftsmen at work, but above all buy a whole host of pretty traditional souvenirs such as a tupilak sculpture, an ulu knife, an Inuit game, a bead necklace, sealskin gloves, musk ox skins... or dishes made from Greenlandic products for gourmets!
Greenland isn't exactly the place for long discussions about prices. You pay the posted price... It's not a good idea to negotiate.
