Most stores are open from 10am to 5pm non-stop, Monday to Friday, and until 3pm on Saturdays. Many stores are also open on Sundays. Offices are closed on Saturdays and the eves of public holidays.

Sales

No regulated sales periods. Winter sales generally start on December 27 or in January; summer sales run from the end of June to the end of July.

What's very local

Numerous flea markets offer a glimpse of local life and a chance to pick up pretty things for less, without encouraging the manufacture of new things.

Tourist traps

Many souvenir stores sell sweaters with Norwegian motifs, but they're made anywhere but in Norway and with anything but Norwegian wool - or even wool at all!
