ROOTS

Mediterranean cuisine restaurant €€
4.5/5
2 reviews

Opened in May 2015, everyone is now familiar with this family-run restaurant expertly run by Matthew and Daniella and their chef Kenneth, a fish specialist. The fried calamari with tartar sauce is a killer starter and leaves just enough room to enjoy a wide selection of dishes. The shrimp pasta is very good, accompanied by seasonal vegetables. This is a small restaurant despite its terrace overlooking the port, so it's best to book in summer.

LA CAPANNA

World cuisine restaurant €€
3.3/5
3 reviews

One of the most famous restaurants in the city. The owner was born and raised there before it became this charming establishment. Recently renovated, the walls are now covered with black and white fishing photos. Fresh fish specialities along the port with a small terrace. You choose your fish before you let Joe, the chef, cook it. You will also find many excellent pasta or rice dishes accompanied by seafood and fresh vegetables. The Capanna is probably the best value for money in this part of the island for eating fish. Aljotta (fish) soups are delicious. So don't hesitate to book in advance, especially on weekends.

IS-SAJJIED RESTAURANT

World cuisine restaurant €€

Another safe address of the city side, but which is decidedly lacking in charm side and service. Mediterranean cuisine where seafood products are kings (but meat dishes are also offered). Octopus fried with garlic (€ 12), fish of the day (€ 13) and pasta dishes from 5 €.

IR-RIZZU

World cuisine restaurant €€

A restaurant facing the harbour, with smoke windows, a simple decoration and a large, airy and lively room. This very popular establishment has a good reputation for seafood products. Soignés treated with Maltese fashion: with well cooked vegetables or pasta.

PISCES

World cuisine restaurant €€

This is another excellent place to enjoy fish in Malta. The room upstairs offers a beautiful view of the harbor. There is a terrace when the market does not extend that far. Each fish, often bass or sea bream, is priced according to its size. In season, you can enjoy fresh tuna, which is excellent, or lobsters, which are served all year round, depending on the arrival. The side dishes are Mediterranean and well done. Those who do not like fish will find meats in sauce and Maltese specialties.

TA' VICTOR

Spécialités €€

Ta'Victor is an institution in Marsaxlokk, and the promise of a unique experience. Served directly by the chef himself, there's no à la carte menu; the fresh produce of the day dictates what happens next, and Victor accompanies you in your choice. Typical Maltese food (Gozitan goat's cheese, local sausage, lampuki, etc.). The wine list is also up to scratch. Starters and desserts on offer. Last but not least, the location on the little church square completes a clean, folkloric picture. Excellent value for money...

FILIPPO

Mediterranean cuisine restaurant €€

If you want to eat in a friendly atmosphere, meet the staff at Filippo Restaurant. They're a cut above the rest in this little Italian restaurant, which, thanks to its location in Marsaxlokk, has been given a fishy twist. The food is served very quickly and always with a word in French for a laugh from Luigi, the troublemaker on duty. The carbonaras are made to perfection (with an egg, not sour cream). You'll appreciate the small gestures of the attentive staff, especially the Sicilian cake offered by the house for dessert. A truly good address.

HUNTERS TOWER

Mediterranean cuisine restaurant €€

This is an address away from the seafront, yet inevitable if you go through Marsaxlokk. It was opened in the 1990 s by Jon Jon who always serves his guests with the same passion. Sublimated by a green terrace amidst trees and candles, the intimacy is at this chic restaurant. On the menu, wide choice of food but many very good proposals that gourmets will appreciate. To note, a park dedicated to children is attached to the restaurant and will allow them to play.

CAFÉ DE PARIS

World cuisine restaurant
4/5

Don't be fooled by the name, here we also serve fish. The hotel is composed of a tiny room and, in summer, a large terrace across the street. The boss and the posters boast about serving the cheapest fish in the station, hence the success of the restaurant. And it's perfectly true at noon, but in the evening, signs showing very low prices remain and prices increase, double to triple, compared to the stated rates. Mackerel, tuna and others are served from 5 € (at noon) and without artifice, simply grilled with salad. The nearby Mr Fritz, with its terrace, is aligned with prices.
