Midsummer's Day, celebrated on the weekend closest to June 21, takes place throughout Lapland. It is celebrated on the longest day of the year, by going to the countryside to party all night long, preferably at the water's edge and around a good barbecue. Often well watered, this festival comes with its traditions: sauna for the Finns, dances around a mast for the Swedes, in Norway some people go up high to observe the huge Midsummer's Day fires from afar. Everyone has their own way of enjoying the longest day of the year!
