The Mexican national holiday is celebrated with pride throughout the country with concerts, buffets and fireworks.
"¡Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe! ¡Muera el mal gobierno! ¡Viva Fernando VII! Curé Hidalgo's famous "Cry of Dolores", launched on September 16, 1810, is repeated every year by the President of the Republic to commemorate the start of the process of Mexican independence. Fireworks, buffets and concerts are the order of the day. Note that the celebration takes place on the evening of September 15, rather than the 16th, since President Porfirio Díaz moved it to coincide with his birthday! A most picturesque national holiday.
