Mykonos. The mere mention of this Greek island - one of the 6,000 other islands and islets stretching across the Ionian and Aegean Seas - creates enchantment. Belonging to the very touristic Cyclades archipelago, it has been the most famous since the 1950s! Indeed, it is partly thanks to the Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis that Mykonos owes its reputation as a land of freedom, but also to the gay community that has been living there for many years, giving a new lease of life to eccentric parties, crazy happenings and alternative bars. Despite an impressive and festive mass tourism during July and August, Mykonos has managed to maintain a simple way of life and the inhabitants of Chora, the capital, continue to cultivate village habits, punctuated by the alternation of the moon and the sun. The Mykonos tourist guide offers trails to discover this island enamelled with windmills and cubic whitewashed houses perched on rocks with green or indigo reflections. From the old port and its beautiful Byzantine style churches to the temples of Paraga and Paradise Beach, from its many beaches including Kalafatis to the inland villages and beautiful coves, Mykonos has much more to offer than its Dionysian nights! Kalos irthate! Welcome! Welcome!

To get to Mykonos by your own means, several options are available, the easiest being the plane. In summer, direct low-cost flights are available. Out of season, you will have to transit through the capital Athens, which is very well served all year round, and then head for Mykonos, either by plane or by boat. To save money, remember to book your flight and accommodation well in advance.

The roads of Mykonos are well maintained but very congested and they are no longer adequate for the large number of visitors who come to the island every summer. Nevertheless, it is possible to rent a vehicle (car or scooter) to reach the four corners of the island. Cabs, although not numerous enough at the peak of the season, will also take you everywhere. The old port and the Chora are pedestrian areas only. However, the rest of the island is not suitable for walkers.
