Practical information : Accomodation Rio De Janeiro
Budget & Tips
The prices of accommodation vary considerably depending on the range of establishments, of course, but also on the time of year or the proximity of events. During Carnival, New Year's Eve or Easter in some places like Ouro Preto, the price can be multiplied by 2, 3 or 4. During these periods, moreover, it is frequent that the customers are imposed a "pacote", that is to say the obligation to reserve a certain number of nights minimum. Overall, the price of a bed in a dormitory is around R$60 to R$80, and it is necessary to count between R$250 and R$400 for a double room in a relatively comfortable establishment like the Regina or the Rio Othon Palace. For the magnificent Belmonte Copacabana Palace, you will have to pay at least R$2,000. Prices can vary between high and low season. In the low season, in cities where competition is strong, it is not incongruous to negotiate prices, especially if you pay in cash. All establishments generally accept credit cards.
To be booked
Needless to say, at certain times of the year, some places are overcrowded. Thus, you will have to book between 6 months and a year in advance during the carnival period, for New Year's Day and during important events. In high season in Paraty or Ouro Preto, the accommodations are often full and the prices are higher. Anticipate, otherwise you will have to rethink your trip
What's very local
Apartment rentals can be an interesting option for groups. Some online sites allow you to book apartments in a fairly secure manner. Airbnb also works quite well in Brazil. In rural areas, it is always interesting to spend nights in lodges or fazendas, whose price varies according to the services offered.
For food lovers
In general, the price of an overnight stay in Brazil includes breakfast (café da manha). This first meal is often an adventure that allows you to discover local specialties. The multitude of fruits, juices, salty and sweet dishes gives a taste of the richness of the local food. Sometimes, breakfast allows you to review a large part of the local delicacies. Pão de queijo, carambola, tapioca cakes... In some places, it is really a first meal.
Smokers
As in all closed places intended to receive the public, pousadas, hotels and youth hostels are spaces where smoking is prohibited.
Tourist traps
For reasons of hygiene and safety, you should use reliable "networks" to choose accommodation (serious websites, tourist offices, reliable information...). We should avoid touts who promise rooms or stays at prices far below those of the market.
