The Seine-et-Marne is full of small medieval towns whose conservation is sometimes quite unheard of. Melun, a city that has remained quite medieval, which has retained a certain rusticity that adds an undeniable cachet to it with Île Saint-Étienne surrounded by the waves of the Seine, is quite nicely flowered and covered with a very pleasant vegetation for a city centre. In Meaux, the episcopal palace and its Saint-Étienne cathedral are the symbols of this. The Old Chapter is also a building to see and visit, as it is so old (13th century), typical of the region and in a breathtaking state of conservation. Fontainebleau must be part of your stops during your stay in this destination. If only for his castle. A favourite residence of Francis I, it is a medieval, Renaissance and classical wonder, thanks to its expansion and restoration.

Discover Seine-Et-Marne

Between city and nature, the Seine-et-Marne offers a variety of walks: parks, forests, ponds, lakes, small bridges and the banks of the Marne. Cycling through this department through green landscapes and charming villages, you will also come across many monuments: mythical castles, ancient fortresses, churches, priories, Templar commanderies, museums, workshops... so many sites that will make you rediscover the history of France but also of its artists (Corot, Renoir, Cézanne...), without forgetting the local delicacies such as Fontainebleau and Coulommiers cheeses, or even terrines, sausages or rillettes from the farm, to be enjoyed on the grass when it's time for a picnic. It is also in this department that you will have the opportunity to visit an exceptional industrial heritage with the Menier factory in Noisiel, the largest chocolate factory in the world until 1914.
