LE CANAL DES DEUX MERS À VÉLO (PARTIE HÉRAULTAISE)
Go there and contact
The Canal des Deux Mers by bike is a cycle route that connects the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. For nearly 800 km, you can cycle on a secure and signposted greenway along the Gironde Estuary, the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi to discover unforgettable sites and landscapes. 90 km of this itinerary are in the Hérault region. For example, you can go from Capestang to Béziers (20 km, about 1h20), on the towpaths. Beware, the cycle path takes the towpath which is not at all developed but rather wild and bumpy. You will see the Malpas tunnel on the way, pass not far from the Oppidum d'Ensérune, which offers an unusual view of the dried-up pond of Montady. This cycling route ends at the unique site of the nine locks of Fonseranes and the superb canal bridge of the Orb, from where the view of the city of Béziers is not lacking in panache. Another stage takes you from Béziers to Agde (26 km, 1h37), then the last one, from Agde to Sète (25 km, 1h36)... Last moments along the Canal du Midi, which merges into the Etang de Thau at the Onglous lighthouse. From Marseillan-plage, the superb green way of the Lido, on the seaside, will lead you to Sète, with a permanent invitation to swim.
