The white forest shines like gold since March 22, when flashed at 255.50 km/h on the famous KL piste in Vars, Simon Billy became the fastest skier on the planet. The first man to break the 255 km/h barrier, he wins the title of world champion for the second time in a row, 2022 and 2023.
At the start 45 degrees of inclination propels you on the most stretched track of the world (98% slope please!). Equipped with a profiled latex suit, long and heavy skis (2m38 and 14 kilos), six seconds were enough for Simon Billy to exceed 200 km/h and cover the 1,400 m of descent in 14 seconds. Cock-a-doodle-doo! A feat in the alpine world, registered with the heart and guts and in the tradition since in 1997, it was his father Philippe, who exceeded the world record with 243 km/h, on this same track in the Hautes-Alpes. Just goes to show that with the Billys, speed is a family affair!
