AÉROPORT INTERNATIONAL SUKARNO-HATTA
The premises also call it Cengkareng (from the name of the district where it is located). It has 3 terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights, 2 for international flights and domestic flights, 3 (all new) for domestic flights.
Terminals 1 and 2 are each separated into 3 sub-terminals: 1 A, 1 B and 1 C are occupied by internal flights (Lion Air, Wings Air, Batavia Air, Sriwijaya Air…). The 2 D and 2 E combine international flights (D for foreign companies, E for Indonesian airlines travelling internationally). 2 F serves internal flights of Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines. Terminal 3 Pier 1 opened in 2009; it is used today by Air Asia and Mandala Airlines. Four other boarding docks are scheduled for 2020.
There is a free shuttle bus between the three terminals; if you are pressed, prefer the taxi, which still asks about 50 000 Rps the race.
Note that this airport was designed by the French architect Paul Andreu (architect of Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris). Some tips can facilitate your arrival and save you a lot of time: the first arrivals of the aircraft will be the first arriving at the visa counter and will not queue, so the front seats are to be favoured.
Since early 2010, visas for 7 days are no longer proposed. Only the 30-day visa is available (renewable with Immigration offices, for a period of 30 additional days) for US $ 25. We then pass the passport control, take its baggage and end with customs control (quite random from our experience).
The hotels organize transfers that avoid a path in the horde of false taxis from the airport, otherwise the Blue Bird taxi company.
Remain vigilant, because some malins read the names of the passengers expected by hotels, get upstream and harvest you in their place. Your driver must wear the hotel uniform.
Exchange offices (once the customs control is over). They are open all day, including evening for late flights. Foreign currency change, traveller's. The rate was very good during our last passage in July 2010 (at least as high as in town).
At the counters (exchange offices, taxis…), you can buy a local SIM card or recharge it.
Vending machine vending machine. You can buy Indonesian cash with a Visa or MasterCard credit card.
Baggage instructions. International terminal (departures and arrivals). Open 24 hours a day. Convenient and safe, provided you close your luggage with a padlock.
Note that a train project exists to connect the airport to Manggarai station in the centre of Jakarta.
