How to get there - Cardiff
Caerleon
Steps: Cardiff
Roman village near Cardiff where Arthur and his knights would have held their councils of war in the remains of the Roman amphitheater: the famous "Round Table". The Ffwrwm Cultural Centre has commissioned a series of thrones dedicated to the knights of the Round Table. They are displayed in the open air in the central courtyard. After Caerleon, take the M4 to Neath and then to Pontneddfechan on the site of Craig-y-Dinas, where there is an extensive network of cellars. Arthur and his knights would still be keeping an important treasure there!
Carmarthen
Capital of Carmarthenshire, in the south-west of Wales, a few steps from Pembrokeshire. It would be the birthplace of Merlin Ambrosius, born of a pious woman and the devil! Merlin thus inherited his father's powers and his mother's wisdom!
St. Govan's Head
According to legend, the treasure of the Knights of the Round Table is hidden under the stones of a small chapel wedged between two cliffs at St. Govan's Head in Pembrokeshire.
Bardsey Island
Dinas Emrys
Steps: Beddgelert
Hill in the region of Snowdonia, near the village of Beddgelert. This is a very important place in Welsh mythology since it is here that Merlin predicted the defeat and the victory of the Welsh over the English. According to the legend, King Vortigern tried in vain to build the foundations of his future castle on this hill. He then brought Merlin, still a young boy, to the site, and the latter had a vision of a dragon fight, one red (representing Wales) and the other white (representing England). Symbol of the struggle between the two peoples, foreshadowing the defeat followed by the victory of the Welsh!
