Travel

Hanoi

Le Tam Côc Garden, havre au coeur de la baie d'Along terrestre.

Steps: Hanoi

Arrival in Hanoi and first steps in the Vietnamese capital. Discover the History Museum, stroll around Hoan Kiêm Lake, the legendary heart of the city, and visit Ngoc Son Temple (Temple of the Jade Mountain) on the islet north of the lake. The walk continues to St. Joseph's Cathedral, next to the Stone Lady Pagoda (Chua Ba Da) and the Old Quarter. Exploration of this maze of 36 streets leads to the venerable Long Biên (ex-Paul-Doumer) bridge over the Red River. In the evening, stroll around Hoan Kiêm Lake and take the lively street leading to the Opera House.

Hanoi-Hoa Lu

Steps: Tam Côc

Early departure. Around 100 km from Hanoi, Hoa Lu, former capital of the Dai Viêt in the 10thcentury , is nicknamed the terrestrial Halong Bay. Ghostly rocky peaks emerge from the rice paddies. A trip to Hoa Lu is an opportunity to discover a region rich in historical vestiges, the cradle of the Vietnamese people. It's also an opportunity to get close to peasant life and to explore splendid landscapes on foot, by climbing the steps leading to a pagoda nestled in the rock, or by boat, carried by a river winding through the countryside. Overnight at a hotel in Tam Coc, in the heart of landlocked Halong Bay.

Day 4

Halong Bay

Early departure to arrive in Halong around 11:30 am. Board the junk for a 2-day cruise. The day is punctuated by swimming and kayaking stops. Overnight on the junk.

Day 5

Back to Hanoi

Banh mi.

Last swims and visits to fishing villages before returning to port. End of cruise and return to Hanoi in the late afternoon (approx. 4-hour drive). Performance at the Water Puppet Theater.

Last day in Hanoi

Steps: Hanoi

In the morning, visit Hô-Chi-Minh's mausoleum, museum and house on stilts, followed by the One Pillar Pagoda. The district is rich in magnificent colonial buildings (the former palace of the Governor General of Indochina and the former Lycée Albert-Sarraut). Then it's on to the superb Musée d'Ethnographie. It offers a glimpse of the extraordinary diversity of the country's peoples. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Literature and the Fine Arts Museum.
