How to get there - Tegucigalpa

Caribbean Directorate

Port de La Ceiba.

Steps: San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula. Choose a plane to San Pedro Sula, the economic capital of Honduras (and not to Tegucigalpa, the political capital, which is much farther away from the coast because much more in the south of the country). If your flight is not too late, take a bus directly to La Ceiba. Take 4 hours of travel. If not, spend a night in San Pedro Sula and leave the next morning.

Rafting on the Rio Cangrejal

Lagon de la Isla de Utila.

Steps: Parque Nacional Pico Bonito

La Ceiba. If you are a rafting enthusiast, you can indulge yourself by leaving for the morning to descend the Rio Cangrejal located just next to La Ceiba (30 minutes maximum by pick-up). Then take the afternoon ferry to Utila Island. You can also simply opt for a short walk in the Pico Bonito National Park or by boat through the mangroves of Cuero y Salado. In the afternoon, take the ferry to Utila.

Pass your diving certificate

Steps: Isla De Útila

Utila. A small island with a very festive atmosphere. Backpack travellers are invited to meet there to learn how to dive and pass the international PADI certification: from the beginner Open-Water level to the courses to become a diving instructor. Allow at least 3 days to pass your Open-Water.

At the meeting of the lizards

Steps: Isla De Útila

. Continue to dive. Visit also the Iguana research station. Here you can encounter funny iguanas of large lizards, one of which is endemic to the Marais marshes. It is a very beautiful and serious conservation initiative and protection protection. It is also possible to volunteer it.

Day 5

Last festive evening in Utila

Survol de l'île de Roatan.

Utila. Continue diving and enjoy this last evening (without diving the next day) to go dancing and/or share a few last moments with your new diving friends.

Change of island

Steps: West End

. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the ferry runs Utila-Roatan. Beyond these days you will need to pass through La Ceiba. It is the largest island of the Islas de la Bahia, with a quieter and relaxing atmosphere than Utila (although weekends can be lively at the West End level).

Day 7

Meeting monkeys and lazy people

Jetée de Cayos Cochinos.

Roatán. Discover the island and its wildest beaches (in the east of the island). While passing by French Key, visit a beautiful wildlife protection initiative: meet and learn about monkeys and lazy people in particular.

Excursion to Cayos Cochinos

Steps: Cayos Cochinos

. Leave for the day on excursions to the islets of Cayos Cochinos. There is also a Community tourism association on these small islands, it is possible to spend the night there: an off-piste experience to meet people of a traditional fishing community.

Places of interest : SENTIERS

Directorate Guanaja

Steps: La Ceiba

. Go back to La Ceiba to take a plane to Guanaja. For the small budget traveller, you can decide to simply extend your stay in Roatan and not necessarily go to Guanaja.

Day 10

The island at the hotel-rocher, but not only...

Guanaja. This third island is less visited by European travellers. Exclusive North American luxury tourism has developed here, including the famous Villa on Dunbar Rock hotel, built on a rock island, whose photo has been featured on social networks around the world. It is however possible to stay in guest rooms and small hostals run by local people and to spend a very good time at the end of the world... or at least at the end of Honduras.
