From Honolulu, go to the city's heights and Maui late in the day.

Haleakala Volcano, Maui

Start early in the morning from your hotel near Kahului Airport to reach the foot of the volcano. Ideally, between 5.45 pm and 7 pm, to attend sunrise on the Haleakala volcano. Haleakala, "the sun's house" in Hawaiian, is a sleeping volcano (3 055 m altitude) that occupies two thirds of Maui. It takes you one to two hours on a winding road to reach the crater. The ascent by car is steep and winding. Take patience because you can only see the crater at the end of the journey. You will spend the end of the day Lahaina.
Rest in Maui

Take advantage of this day to rest by visiting the city of Lahaina. This is a city where you can go around by foot and one of the few places of Maui where the nightlife is lively. The day will be devoted to visiting museums and historic monuments, shopping in the shops of the charming streets of the city centre, with a whale watching session as a bonus if it is the season (from December to April; allow 4 hours of available time). For lunch or dinner, Lahaina has cheap restaurants and good restaurants.
Arrival on Hawai'i Island
Steps: Kailua-Kona
Take a flight to Maui which lands at Kona airport. Once settled in Kailua-Kona, go to Kaloko-Honokohau National Park to see the lava and turtles.

The National Park of Volcanoes of Hawaï
Steps: Hilo
Leave your hotel on the south coast of Kailua-Kona at 6 am, because the journey to the entrance to the National Park of Volcanoes lasts 2 hours and you need to spend the whole day for the visit. The main stops to make by order: Kilauea Visitor's Center (information centre), Kilauea Caldera (view on the volcano caldera), Thomas A. Jaggar Museum (museum on Hawai'i island volcanoes), Hilo, where you have booked the overnight accommodation.

Hilo
Steps: Mauna Kea
The city is ideally located, only 45 minutes from Mauna Kea. Dedicate this day to the visit of the peaceful and authentic Hilo. In the morning, Imiloa Astronomy Center (a must-see museum before going to Mauna Kea), Pacific Tsunami Museum (on tsunamis history in Hilo, Hawaii and in the world). In the afternoon, Banyan Drive (superb road lined with banians), and snorkeling on the different beaches.
