How to get there - VIk I Mýrdal
From Hveragerði to the cliffs of Dyrhólaey
Steps: Kirkjubaejarklaustur
The first stop is the city of Hveragerði, characterized by its high geothermal activity. The natural heat that results from this phenomenon is directed towards greenhouses in which plants, fruits and vegetables grow. By taking the road n° 1, you pass an impressive waterfall housed within the village of Skogar, then the day ends with the discovery of the cliffs of Dyrhólaey and a meeting with the Reynisdrangar rock formations off the black sand beach of Vík. Night in Kirkjubaejarklaustur, where the Systrafoss waterfall flows.
From Vatnajökull National Park to Jökulsarlón
Steps: Jökulsárlón
On this second day, take a walk on the marked trails of Vatnajökull National Park at Skaftafell. Further along on Route 1, you can't miss one of the country's jewels, the Jökulsarlón, a glacial lagoon on which towering icebergs from the melting of the Breiðamerkurjökull ice sheets are built. Return to Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
Places of interest : VATNAJÖKULL
Landmannalaugar Lands
Steps: Landmannalaugar
Not far from the place that has just been used as a haven of rest for the night, an inland track leads to the Landmannalaugar lands. Only accessible in summer, this natural area is characterized by fabulous rhyolite mountains with the most contrasting shades of colour. A multitude of visitors are accustomed to swimming in a hot spring located near the shelters. Crossing lava deserts in 4x4 vehicles, here we are, as we approach the Hekla volcano, which last erupted in 2000, and the Þjórsárdalur valley, which contains some superb waterfalls. Night in Flúðir.
