Arrival in Funchal
Steps: Funchal

Madeira has the largest area of Laurissilva Forest in the world (the name given to this type of subtropical rainforest), which occupies about 15,000 hectares located mainly on the north coast of the island. Because of its biological specificity, its diversity of endemic species and its good state of conservation, the Laurissilva Forest of Madeira was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list in 1999.
Discovering protected areas
Steps: Vila Baleira
The archipelago has many protected areas such as the Madeira Natural Park, Partial Nature Reserve of Garajau, Nature Reserve of Sítio da Rocha do Navio and the network of marine protected areas of Porto Santo. The Madeira Natural Park occupies about two thirds of the island's territory and includes, in addition to the laurel forest, the Point of São Lourenço, the exotic forest, the mountainous massif and large rural areas, with different protection statuses. Apart from the beauty of the place and the richness of the natural heritage, there is an atmosphere as exotic as it is mysterious. To recharge your batteries, cut your ties, make a mini retreat, or simply share moments of contemplation, the place is magical
