It was in this city, the state capital, that the bus boycott was launched after Rosa Park's arrest on December 5, 1955. A few years later, in May 1961, the city was crossed by the Freedom Rides and experienced serious incidents. Martin Luther King was a pastor there and worked on many occasions for the civil rights struggle. Priority visits: Rosa Parks Library & Museum, Freddom Rides Museum, Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, Civil Right Memorial & Center, First Baptist Church, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, Dexter Parsonage Museum.
