Day 1: Mexican Venice celebrates
Your private English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel in Mexico City. You'll leave for the San Angel district in the south of the city, famous for its history, typical Mexican architecture and bohemian atmosphere. You'll then head off to Xochimilco, Mexico's Venice, to explore the fertile land on a colorful lancha, where plants and flowers are still grown. The day ends with a visit to the Dolores Olmedo Museum, Frida Kahlo's patron, where you can admire the offerings made to Frida Kahlo for the Feast of the Dead.
Day 2: Xicalancas and Teochichimecas traditions
Your guide will take you to Cholula, where you can experience the traditional village atmosphere of the Festival of the Dead, and visit one of the world's largest pyramids: Cholula. You'll then head for the village of Huaquechula, which has become a must-see for the Festival of the Dead thanks to the beauty of the altars presented by the indigenous community. Your day ends with a visit to Atlixco, Mexico's flower-growing capital.
Day 3: The Feast of the Dead in Mixquic
Early in the morning, you'll set off for the village of Tepoztlan, a few kilometers from Cuernavaca. Popular beliefs give Tepoztlan a special vibrancy during the Festival of the Dead. At the end of the day, your guide will take you to the village of Mixquic to experience the famous Festival of the Dead in the purest indigenous tradition. After the festivities, your guide will take you back to Mexico City.
