6-day trek up Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route
Special offer to join the Mount Kilimanajro trekking group via the Marangu route on August 09 and September 02, 2024, the Marangu route is an easy, gradual ascent and the most popular route for climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. You'll sleep in shared wooden huts. Toilets, dining rooms and shower rooms (cold showers) are available. This itinerary is recommended for a day's acclimatization at Horombo Huts. We also provide an oximeter, oxygen tank and first-aid kit, flying medical insurance and a guide who speaks English or other languages.

Arusha to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Depart Arusha for the Marangu gate for the necessary formalities before starting the trek. The trek begins with an ascent through magnificent rainforest. At the upper limit of the forest, you'll have the chance to see blue monkeys. The trail then widens to expose beautiful hills until you reach Mandara Hut.

De Mandara Hut à Horombo Hut
You'll start the day by continuing through the forest until the trail opens out onto high moorland. You may catch your first glimpse of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, two of the three volcanic peaks that make up the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Horombo Acclimatization
This acclimatization day is optional, but remember that the Marangu route has the lowest success rate. We recommend that you add this optional one-day stay at Horombo Hut to explore the surrounding area. This will increase your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
De Horombo à Kibo Hut
You will climb gradually, then cross the lunar desert of the "Selle" between Mawenzi and Kibo. The Kibo hut lies at the foot of the Kibo crater wall. Once there, you'll rest and have an early dinner in preparation for the summit day

From Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, from Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Very early in the morning (around midnight), you begin your progress towards the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. The wind and cold at this altitude and time of day can be extreme. You climb in the dark for several hours, taking frequent but short breaks.
at Gilman's Point (18,600ft), you'll be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you've ever seen on Mawenzi Peak. Finally, you arrive at Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Kilimanjaro and the African continent.

After spending a few moments in the African plains and your accomplishment, you descend to Horombo Hut. Later in the evening, you enjoy your last dinner on the mountain and a well-deserved sleep

From Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
On the last day, you'll take a long hike (mostly downhill) through the rainforest. Once you arrive at the park headquarters at Marangu gate, you will collect your summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting at Marangu gate to take you back to Arusha.
