Arrival and sunset cruise - Entebbe International Airport

Arrival at Entebbe international airport in Uganda. Our friendly guide will welcome you and transfer you to your booked hotel. If you arrive before 4:00 pm, you'll prepare for the sunset cruise on Lake Victoria.

Transfer to Ruboni community village - Rwenzori National Park

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

After an early breakfast, your guide/driver transfers you to Kasese via Queen Elizabeth National Park. This town is the main access point to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park and the starting point for your Ruwenzori adventure.

Transfer and hike Nyakalengija (1615 m altitude) - Nyabitaba Hut (2651 m altitude)

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

Today, you'll have breakfast at your leisure and make your way to park headquarters at 9:00 am for the safety briefing and to begin your adventure at Nyakalengija. Starting with a trail through farmland and along the Mubuku River, the steep ascent to Nyabitaba Hut takes around 6-7 hours, offering opportunities to encounter chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and the vibrant Rwenzori turaco.

Randonnée - Nyabitaba Hut (2651m asl) - John Matte Hut (3505m asl)

After a hot coffee, you'll descend from Nyabitaba through the forest to the Kurt Shafer bridge, near the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Cross a challenging stretch of slippery, moss-covered rocks in bamboo forest, with views of Stanley and Speke Mountains from the Nyamileju rock shelter. Reach John Matte Hut after crossing a tiring bog for dinner and overnight.

Randonnée - John Matte Hut (3505m asl) - Bujuku Hut (3962m asl)

Today you'll descend from John Matte Hut, crossing the Bujuku River into the Lower Bigo Bog, adorned with giant lobelia. Carefully traversing the bog tussocks, you'll reach Lake Bujuku with panoramic views of Mount Baker to the south and Mount Stanley to the west. Located in the shadow of Mounts Baker and Speke, Bujuku Hut is nestled in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann Pass.

Randonnée - Bujuku (3962m asl) Elena Hut (4541m asl)

After an early breakfast, you'll set off from Bujuku. The trail climbs through swampy terrain, steep slopes and the delightful Groundsel Gulch to reach Scott-Elliot Pass at 4372m. You'll reach a section where the trail splits: the right-hand trail climbs to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley, while the left-hand trail leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and Kitandara Lakes, with those not climbing Margherita Peak continuing on to Kitandara Hut. Climbers of Margherita Peak will have dinner and spend the night at Elena Hut.

Rendez-vous - Elena Hut (4541m asl) - Margherita Peak (5109m asl) (Kitandara Hut) - (4022m asl)

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

For those wishing to reach the Margherita peak (5109 m), the ascent starts at the base of the Stanley glacier and takes around 5-7 hours, traversing three glaciers, slippery rocks and exposed areas. This demanding climb requires good physical condition and technical climbing skills. After reaching the summit, you'll descend over Scott-Elliot Pass, enjoying views of Lake Bujuku, Mount Speke, Mount Stanley and the Kitandara Lakes, before ending the day with dinner and an overnight stay in Kitandara.

Descente Kitandara Hut 4022m asl - GuYeoman (3505m asl)

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

From Kitandara, the steep trail skirts the base of Mount Baker to Fresh Field Pass, which offers views of the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. Continue on the long trail, passing the historic rock shelter of Bujongolo, base camp of the Duke of Abruzzi's 1906 expedition, before spending the night at Guy Yeoman Hut.

GuYeoman (3505m asl) - Nyabitaba Camp (2560m asl)

The descent to Nyabitaba camp takes around 6-7 hours, but with an early start it is possible to descend to Nyakalengija. Below Guyeoman, the road descends the Kichuchu cliffs and takes you through areas of bamboo forest to Nyabitaba for dinner and overnight.

Descente Nyabitaba Camp (2651m asl) - Nyakalengija (1615m asl)

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

Descent from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija in 3-4 hours, finishing the trek in the afternoon. Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On arrival at your lodge, spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the natural surroundings.

Transfer to Entebbe international airport

Steps: Rwenzori National Park

Today you'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast, check out of your lodge and take the road to Entebbe airport. En route, you'll have lunch in Mbarara to mark the end of your hiking adventure in the Rwenzori mountains.
